One of the activities the club participates in is the stewardship and monitoring of the Carthew Bay Nature Reserve, one of the properties managed by the Couchiching Conservancy. Our job as stewards is to visit the property at least four times a year, spring, summer, fall and winter and make note of any changes such as invasive species, damage to the property or other items of interest.
We also look for resident flora and fauna and make a final report to the conservancy for any action deemed necessary. We took one of those walks this past Wednesday, November 9 and enjoyed the stillness of the hardwood forest. We did note the arrival of the invasive phragmites along the shoreline.
