Three members went to the George Langman Sanctuary on Saturday, June 17 to focus on learning birdsong. We were armed with a sheet of mnemonics, but also the app Merlin, which was a great help.
The area was full of birdsong. The list of songs identified by the group is below. We also saw many wildflowers in bloom – including some Pitcher Plants and Yellow Lady Slippers.
This is a great place for learning birdsong – and close to town – so one could go back again and again to consolidate the memory of songs. The few people who did come had a very enjoyable outing.
Listing of Birds heard:
Yellow Warbler (seen and heard)
Red-winged Blackbirds (seen and heard)
Swamp Sparrow
Black-and-white Warbler

American Goldfinch (seen and heard)

This is the last planned outing for this year’s program. We are working on the next program now – watch your email and our social media feeds for updates!
