Recap: Chimney Swifts

Over the past decade, Birds Canada and other conservation organizations have been collecting valuable data on Chimney Swift populations. Thanks to dedicated volunteers across Ontario and the Maritimes, this growing dataset provides important insight into which chimneys are being used, how often they are occupied, and how many Chimney Swifts are present during both the breeding season and migration periods.

Members and friends of the Orillia Naturalists’ Club monitored the chimney at the Residence on West Street on the evening of May 20. Twenty-six observers witnessed 125 Chimney Swift enter the chimney — an amazing and memorable sight for everyone involved!

This is an annual event. Hope you can join us next year.
